Work Ethics Program – 7th grade
The Work Ethics Program is designed to introduce 7th grade students to the real world of work, promote career awareness, enhance their understanding of the importance of education now and in the future, and the development of quality work habits such as:
• Attendance/Punctuality
• Sense of
• Civic Pride Involvement
• Achievement
The Work Ethics Program operates from October through June and is coordinated by a team or committee, usually consisting of a guidance counselor, teachers, and a business representative. The team works together to coordinate monthly presentations by various speakers from the local business community, to share their personal on the job experiences with the students.
Many of the schools use a theme approach for their monthly guest speaker presentations, i.e., culinary, government, public safety or banking, to name a few. The teams are supplied a Speaker’s Bank from TASC comprised of speakers from the community. Speakers will inform the students of their training and education, their responsibilities, the importance of positive work ethics, and the rewards and consequences of work habits. The students learn how school subjects relate to careers, how good work habits, teamwork, and communication skills are used in the workplace. They also learn what employers are looking for in their employees.
The program is reinforced throughout the school year by the faculty, with follow-up discussions, essays, posters, projects and displays on different careers and the importance of good work ethics.
Each school holds a recognition breakfast at the end of the program, at which time 20 to 40 7th grade will be acknowledged for displaying excellent work ethics throughout the year. The student’s parents, school administrators, guest speakers, and TASC representatives are invited to the breakfast, to honor those students who consistently demonstrated good work habits, good attitude and who have shown significant improvement in their performance in school. Presentations of student projects and student speakers may be included on the agenda at the breakfast. The students receive certificates and a goody bag or gift from TASC.
